A woman is like a TEA BAG - you never know how strong she is until she gets into HOT WATER. - Eleanor Roosevelt

the apron collection

So I have a few aprons. Until I have a long hallway where they can be properly displayed on pegs... each one in it's very own glory, I thought I'd have my Jim take pics of me sporting each and a little description...

My first apron, a gift from Jim for my birthday in 2002 from Williams-Sonoma.  Who knew then that I'd become obsessed a short 8 years later!  ha ha! The Nigella cookbook is from Marsha-Marsha-Marsha!

Oddly enough, my favorites are not the Vera's, but the ones I received from my Great Grandma Edell after she passed away.

Here are a few of those and some of my own and several that were gifts from family and friends...

This white with red trim is one of my favorites. The cotton is thin (and has a hole or two,) is easy to tie and fun to wear. This was Great Grandmas and I wish I could remember her wearing it!

This was my first Vera Bradley Apron - the pattern is "Imperial Toile."  I wear this one a lot.

Here is another red trim of Great Grandma's.  She must have starched it good once upon a time, because this gal here is still pretty stiff.  It is knee length and so prim and proper.

This is my second Vera apron - the pattern is called "In A Nest," I think.  I haven't worn it as much because I bought this one just before I received the mother-load of Great Grandma aprons... and those are half aprons and easy peasy speedy to tie on...

This pale blue one is a gift from my mom.  I think she paid a lot for it because it looked nostalgic.  I wore it once and washed it and Marsha Marsha Marsha found it, in it's unwrinkled glory.   She took it to her house and it came back pressed, with a post-it note warning, "this one is not meant to be worn.  It is meant to look pretty on a hook..."  Apparently. someone had an adventure ironing it and seems not to want to do that again... wonder who that might be?

Millie wanted in on some camera action...

Here is another overly priced, piece of nostalgia, compliments of mama.  This one also had a post-it note warning from someone's Aunt Somebody Somebody Somebody...

This one is one of my faves - I wore this one at Owen and Miles' lemonade stand last summer.

I bought this one at SoHo South Cafe'.  A few of my friends and I raced to go there after eating at J. Cristophers for breakfast after dropping off our preschoolers.  We ate breakfast and hopped down the block to SoHo South Cafe' where I found this dandy girl hanging on a dress form.  (Oh how I wanted the dress form too!) We made it back just in time to get the monkeys from school.  Mamas know how to fit in a good time!

This grand dame is a gift from my good friend Liz Robinson.  She found it for me at Anthropologie - she knows I LOVE that store and she got it for me for my birthday!  That Lizzy is one good girl!  You can't see it in this picture, but it has a cutie belt at the top too - it looks just like a "smart" skirt, in fact.  I love it when Liz says something looks "smart!"

Here is another Great Grandma apron - it is a short one - and that makes me think that perhaps Edell was a sassy young bride, once upon a time!

This one (I have a few like this) is an easy grab from the hook because it is simple and fast to tie.  This is a Great Grandma one too - and as you can see, it is short... hmmmm...

This cupcake apron was a birthday present from Aunt Pammy.  It is super girlie and I love it, but I didn't love the little pink bowtie at the top - and I wrested with it with a dull pair of scissors.  A few days later, the apron was rescued by Aunt Marsha Marsha Marsha and now it is the glammy-cute apron it was meant to be - minus the bow tie!

This is my most recent gift - this one came from Grandma Louise - it is a mult-tasking, hard-working apron.  It has an optional "bib" that can be unbuttoned and it has two LARGE side pockets - they are big enough to fit a cookbook, a dishtowel or sponge, a small child or maybe half a pound cake too.  This would have been handy for when I was pregnant - I could have shoved cheeseburgers in one pocket and a cafeteria-size jar of Mount Olive Pickles in the other side.
